ABOUT
Our client is a Danish-founded freight forwarder, established in Copenhagen in 1978 and operating through owned offices in 34 countries rather than a loose partner network. The Houston office opened in 2016 and runs a team of 18 across air and ocean operations, with a client base weighted to energy, petrochemical and industrial shippers. Average client tenure is nine years.
The office is a genuine ops floor, not a sales outpost. Files are owned end to end by the person who opens them, and the leadership team sits in the same room as the operators.
Two new Asia trade lane partnerships go live in Q4 and import volumes on the existing book have grown through the year. This seat is being added now so the new lanes land on a desk that is ready, not on an overflow pile. The company wants an operator who runs both air and ocean, because that is how the desk is built.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will manage air and ocean import and export files end to end: quote, book, execute, invoice and close.
- You will cut MAWBs and HAWBs, issue bills of lading and delivery orders, and file AES/EEI and ISF 10+2 on time, first time.
- You will book with carriers, co-loaders and consol desks across FCL, LCL and airfreight, and negotiate spot rates where the lane needs it.
- You will liaise with customs brokers on entries, exams and holds, and keep the client ahead of the story rather than behind it.
- You will run track and trace, arrival notices and same-day exception handling on every file you own.
- You will watch demurrage, detention and per diem exposure and keep all three off the file.
- You will keep files clean in CargoWise One, with milestones current and margins visible.
- You will hold IATA and TSA screening compliance on air export files.
- You will support the sales desk with quotes and routing options when the phone rings.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You have at least two years in freight forwarding operations covering both air and ocean, on the forwarder or NVOCC side.
- You produce documentation without hand-holding: air waybills, bills of lading, AES/EEI and ISF.
- You know your incoterms and what they mean for who pays when a container sits.
- You have worked in CargoWise One or a comparable TMS.
- You hold working relationships with carriers and co-loaders in the Houston market.
- You stay calm at cut-off, because consols do not wait.
- You are Houston based and work from the office.
