About the Role
South Bay Drayage is looking for an experienced and organized Air Freight Dispatcher to coordinate our air freight trucking operations. This position will be responsible for efficiently dispatching drivers, managing equipment, communicating with customers, and ensuring time-sensitive freight moves smoothly from pickup through delivery.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple shipments at once, and keep drivers and customers informed throughout the process.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch drivers efficiently based on shipment requirements, pickup/delivery appointments, locations, and available equipment.
- Coordinate daily driver schedules and optimize routes to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.
- Communicate with drivers throughout the day to monitor shipment status and resolve operational issues.
- Provide customers with timely updates regarding pickups, deliveries, delays, ETAs, and shipment status.
- Manage and track company equipment, including trucks, vans, trailers, and other assigned equipment.
- Coordinate airport pickups and deliveries and ensure drivers meet required appointment times.
- Monitor shipments from pickup through final delivery.
- Respond quickly to changes, delays, missed appointments, and other unexpected operational issues.
- Maintain accurate dispatch records and shipment documentation.
- Coordinate with customers, drivers, warehouse personnel, airport facilities, and internal operations staff.
- Ensure drivers have the correct shipment information, paperwork, and instructions before dispatch.
- Identify opportunities to improve driver utilization, routing, and overall operational efficiency.
- Escalate service issues or operational problems to management when necessary.
- Maintain a high level of customer service while managing multiple shipments simultaneously.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in trucking, dispatching, air freight, logistics, or transportation operations preferred.
- Experience coordinating time-sensitive freight is a strong plus.
- Strong knowledge of Southern California transportation and major airport operations, particularly LAX, is preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable communicating with drivers throughout the day by phone, text, and dispatch systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions.
- Proficiency with computers, email, spreadsheets, and transportation/dispatch software.
- Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure.
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
